I use to have a roughly 25-30 mile round trip commute through backroads, was wonderful. Now it’s down to roughly 9 miles round trip through the suburb

Wait, I’m confused - is this the new commute or the old one? :)

I’m jealous of the commute though - mine is 22 miles, almost all interstate. And if I’m lucky, I can do it in 35-40 minutes on a good day...

Daily commute? It depends on whether or not I have to drop the kids at school or pick them up. It’s about 12 miles straight to work, part rural, part interstate, part city. If I have to drop off the kids, it’s 17 miles to the drop, then another 7 back to work for a total of 24 miles. Potentially 48 miles a day round trip if I have to do both drop off and pick up. But all that shall be changing soon....

The commute is pretty nice, almost never traffic, it’s pretty stress free.

60 minutes; maybe 22 miles total travel. I leave, drop my kid off at pre school which is 4 miles away through our little suburbs downtown(so 12 minutes to get there) then 10 minutes of driving to the park and ride on an arterial local road at 45mph with stoplights; then a 20 minute bus ride in and a 5 minute walk.

Work pays for the bus pass. So it’s free and only an extra 5-10 minutes to ride the bus.

Going to cut about 15-20 minutes out of the equation when we get our new house. Same plan though; drop off kid, park and ride(I’ll actually be going 1 mileout of the city to get on an express bus, ha) walk

Not usually haha, I have to run stuff around sometimes so it’s nice to just have a car there instead of walking home to get one. I actually do a loop that makes it like 2 or 3miles just so it gets warmed up. I’ll take it for longer drives after work if I don’t go anywhere in the day.

Mine’s 5 km which takes 15-20 min with a bicycle. With a car the time is a bit shorter outside our rush hours but longer during these. During the winter time cycling slows down but scraping the ice off the car and generally worse traffic situation will make driving a lot slower. So I try to avoid driving to work during regular working days.

Our rush hour is quite mild compared to really crowded cities but I really hate sitting in the traffic.

10 miles, usually done in 12 to 15 minutes with light to moderate traffic. In heavy to theres-a-car-on-fire traffic it’ll take 20 to 45 minutes. The whole commute is a straight line on a semi-major highway so if something goes wrong, it goes very wrong, and there is no escape.

Other than that its pretty nice though. Half my commute time is usually waiting at red lights so when I’m moving its at a pretty good pace. I’m able to come home for lunch occasionally which is really nice.

https://oppositelock.kinja.com/heres-a-video-of-my-commute-1820646308

My commute at home consists of Mulholland Highway, Decker or Encinal Canyons, and the Pacific Coast Highway every day. Takes about an hour to cover the 40 miles door to door. I can alternatively take the 101 freeway in the morning and cover the 35 miles in about 37-40 minutes (less if I leave earlier and uhh go faster in the STi). The mountainous route is much more entertaining and unless I am really pressed for time, is always the way I go. Plus in the evening the freeway takes 1+ hours so its actually faster to go through the mountains. I’ve made it home in ~55 minutes a few times (google maps says 1 hr 18 min for the route I take).

Right now though I am on perpetual travel to Dallas for a few months so my commute from the hotel to the office is about 5 minutes. I exit the hotel, make one of the crazy Dallas U-turns under the freeway, and then take the frontage road to the office. At least that U-turn offers some entertainment in whatever boring rental car I have. This week I have a Ford Focus hatch so it is mildly amusing to drive around versus the penalty box Versas they usually have far too many of.

I wish google maps would be more helpful and actually say MAKE A U TURN instead of telling me how its going to be a left turn. When the two are entirely different lanes it seems important to clarify. But yes, it is entertaining when nobody is in front of me to attack those things with some speed. Today it was still wet from the downpouring yesterday, so the Focus was trying to kick the tail out on the exit since I happened to get a cross traffic red for once.

Irregular. Distance-wise it’s 5 miles but people miraculously lose their ability to drive the closer I get to work so it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 30+.

The Miata makes it tolerable but only barely when it’s 105+ deg. F in the summer. I think I’ve finally lost the tan lines I got back in June.

Varried, is the nicest way I can put it. If I were to drive to where I work outside of rush hour it would take me right around 22 minutes to make the 14 mile drive. It’s about 1/3 surface streets and 2/3rds interstate.

However the actual morning commute on a good day is more like 35 minutes, and on a bad day has taken hours. On average though it usually takes me around 45 minutes to get to work or back home. The best part though is that it fluctuates wildly day to day.

2.3 miles each way. Two turns, six stop signs and two lights. I do fire up the car about 5 min before I clock out (I park about 5 feet from the time clock) so she’s nice and toasty warm at 0300.

After years of a 40 mile daily commute, which averaged to about 15K/year, it’s nice living so close to the office. I guess I should ask my insurance co. for a discount since I’m only putting on about 4K/year these days. I’m looking to buy a place, but I really don’t want to lengthen the commute if can help it.
